Malia Lani was born in Honolulu O’ahu. She grew up in a Hawaiian household, surrounded by the music and culture. She began dancing at the age of four through the legacy of her family, training with some of Hawaii’s most recognized Kumu Hulas (master teachers of Hawaiian dance) including Sonny Ching, Chinky Mahoe, Keali’i Reichel, Mark Keali’i Ho’omalu (of Disney’s Lilo & Stitch), Keith Awai and Ellen Gay Dele Rosa of the Polynesian Cultural Center.
At 15 she began intensive training for Hale O Malo Polynesian Revue, (founded by John and Amy Malo- production owners and entertainers in such films as Elvis’ “Blue Hawaii”). Malia has been dancing professionally for 12+ years throughout the Hawaiian Islands and mainland including: Tihati Productions, Norwegian Cruise-lines, Aloha Tower’s Star of Honolulu & John Naki’s- Hawaiian Network Entertainment
Her father Ronn Chow is Hawaiian and Chinese, & grew up in the heart of Makaha; playing music and entertaining since the age of 14…
“Since my twin sister and I were 4 years old, we were sharing the stage with my dad. This is what we grew up doing. Hula always was, and still is our family’s way of life”
Her love for Hawaiian & Polynesian dance is evident in her teaching style…
“I share my mana’o (knowledge) with my students, and teach them everything I can to shape them into great dancers. I want to make sure that they get the most out of their classes, and teach them the real thing”
